Convenience Center Hours
The Franklin County Convenience Centers are closed Sunday, Dec. 24, Monday, Dec. 25, Monday, Jan. 1, and Monday, Jan. 15.

Garbage Pickup
There will not be a garbage pickup on Monday, Dec.25, Christmas Day. On Tuesday, Dec.26, the garbage pickup will be for both Monday’s and Tuesday’s normal routes.

Blood Drive
Help meet the critical need for blood in our community. Join Blood Assurance 12:30–6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the CVS Monteagle. To schedule an appointment call (423) 756-0966 or go online at>. Appointments are preferred but not required, walk-ins are welcome. All donors receive a T-shirt and a snack.

Village Update Meeting
Meet with Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor  Frank Gladu, to discuss the Village development updates. Meet 10–11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Blue Chair Tavern. Coffee will be served and everyone in the community is welcome.

Area Rotary Club Meetings
The Grundy County Rotary Club meets at 11:30 a.m., Tuesdays at Dutch Maid Bakery in Tracy City. The Monteagle Sewanee Rotary Club will not meet on Thursday, Dec. 28. The next meeting will be at 8 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, for a club assembly.

Curbside Recycling
Residential curbside recycling pickup in Sewanee is on the first and third Friday of each month. Friday, Jan. 5, will be a pickup day.
Recyclable materials must be separated by type and placed in blue bags by the side of the road no later than 7:30 a.m. Please do not put out general household trash on this day. Blue bags may be picked up in the University Lease and Community Relations Office, 400 University Ave. (the Blue House) or at the Physical Plant Services office on Georgia Ave.

Lease Agenda Items
Agenda items are due by the fifth of each month for Lease Committee meetings. If the fifth falls on a weekend, then items are due the following Monday. Lease Committee meetings are normally the third Tuesday of the month. Agenda items are due Friday, Jan. 5.

CAC Pantry Sunday
Pantry Sunday for the Community Action Committee (CAC) is Sunday, Jan. 7, for participating churches: St. James, Otey, Cumberland Presbyterian and All Saints’ Chapel. Please bring your food offerings to Sunday services. The typical bag of groceries includes: rice, beans, pasta, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, and cans of vegetables, fruit and soup. The cost for a complete bag is less than $15.
The CAC is an outreach ministry of Otey Parish, with generous support from the Sewanee Community Chest and individuals across the Mountain. For more than 42 years, the CAC has provided food, financial assistance and educational support for persons in the greater Sewanee community. For more information contact the CAC at 598-5927.

Franklin County School Board
The Franklin County School Board will meet in a regular session at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8, at the Franklin County Board of Education Building, 215 S. College St., Winchester.

La Leche League Meets Jan. 9
The La Leche League of Sewanee will meet next at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at the Community Center, 39 Ball Park Rd. All pregnant women, mothers and babies are welcome. For more information or breastfeeding support, call Pippa, (931) 463-2050, or Diane, (225)-803-2110.

Alzheimer’s Support Group
The Alzheimer’s Support Group through the Alzheimer’s Association meets at 6 p.m., the first Tuesday of each month, at the Willows of Winchester Health and Rehab Center’s conference room, located at 32 Memorial Drive, Winchester. The support group is for caregivers and families caring for anyone with memory impairment. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Messenger Holiday Schedule
The Dec. 22 issue is the last one for 2017. The staff will take a two-week break and return to the office on Monday, Jan. 8, with the first issue of 2018 on Friday, Jan. 12. Deadlines for the Jan. 12 issue are display advertising at 5 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8; news/calendar items at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9; and classified page ads at noon, Wednesday, Jan. 10.

On Wednesday, Jan. 10, from 6–7:30 p.m., DivorceCare, a nationwide nondenominational support group for separated and divorced individuals will meet in Monteagle.
