‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’
The Sewanee Herbarium is sponsoring a community botanical art exhibit at Stirling’s Coffeehouse, Feb. 23–March 21. Titled “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” it opens with a reception 3:30-5:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 23.
The show is the latest in the herbarium’s ongoing effort to cultivate connections between people and plants. “Plants are of great value to us all,” said Jon Evans, Sewanee Herbarium Director. “We interact with them on a daily if not hourly basis and yet we are often ‘blind’ to their existence around us. One of the objectives of the Sewanee Herbarium is to raise awareness of plants among the student body and within the community. In this not-so-green time of year, we hope to awaken your enthusiasm for plants by featuring works of art at Stirlings that celebrate the botanical world.”
The exhibit encompasses a variety of interpretations of botanical art in a range of media. Works include nature journal entries, cut paper, mixed media, stitchery, drawing, and painting. Artists are Sewanee students, community members, and friends. Some of the works will be offered for sale. For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
